About our school

History and organization

Ivan Franko Ukrainian Saturday School was established by parents and teachers on October 14, 2006.

The school has a convenient Missisauga location near to QEW & Cawthra intersection. Our students live in Mississauga, Oakville, Etobocoke and Toronto.

Program

Ivan Franko Ukrainian Saturday School is a non-for-profit organization providing quality education in Ukrainian language, literature, culture, history, geography and religion to children ages 3 to 17. The school is recognized by the Toronto District Catholic School Board and our grade 9 to 12 students are eligible to receive high school credits in International Languages program for successful completion of their courses.

Our school is proud to have highly skilled teaching staff with many years of work experience in both Ukraine and Canada. All the textbooks used in school are modern textbooks printed in Ukraine and based on school programs approved by the Ministry of Education of Ukraine. To further promote education in Ukrainian to our students, we have our own school library rich in literature and study materials, which can be borrowed and enjoyed at home during the week.

Our classes, including club meetings, are held every Saturday (excluding holidays) from 9 am to 2 pm from September to end of May.

Extracurriculars

The school program allows students experience their Ukrainian heritage and practice spoken Ukrainian not only in class but also by actively participating in various events organized by Ukrainian community of Greater Toronto, as well as many school events. St. Nicholas Concert, Shevchenko Concert, the Last Bell, just to name a few, are all part of our annual program.

In addition to regular classes, our students have an opportunity to participate in a number of school clubs, held during regular school hours. Choir, dance, embroidery and science clubs are all part of the regular program offered at Ivan Franko Saturday School. During Christmas time our students, teachers and parents participate in traditional Christmas caroling, that is part of our curriculum in culture education and is greatly enjoyed by both children and adults. Our students works were also published in various Canadian Ukrainian newspapers.

Parent Council

School activities are organized by parent volunteers led by our Parent Council. The parents do administrative tasks, maintain school website, organize events and even arrange the pizza delivery every Saturday. We appreciate any time that our parents can give to support our school.

Our parents and teachers created a wonderful and warm family atmosphere where most students and grown-ups know each other and become friends. If you are a newcomer and would like to find Ukrainian community for yourself and your kids, you will find a warm welcome in our school!

At Ivan Franko Ukrainian Saturday School your children can meet new friends, find closer connection to their Ukrainian roots and express their artistic talents while learning Ukrainian. We invite everyone who loves and appreciates Ukrainian language and culture. Come visit and see it yourself!
